Cover that answers to you, not a carrier

Vela Lumen is an independent insurance agency. We compare what several carriers will actually pay on a claim, explain it in plain language, and leave the choice with you.

No obligation, and nothing is bound until you say so.

01 — Home

Know your rebuild number

Most homes are insured for what they cost, not what they would cost to rebuild. We start there.

02 — Auto

Liability that holds up

State minimums rarely survive a serious claim. We show you where your current limits stop.

03 — Life

Term sized to real life

Enough cover for the years your household still depends on your income — no more than that.

What we cover

Six lines, one agent who knows your whole file

Because everything sits with one agency, a change in one policy gets checked against the rest. No retelling your situation to a new department each time.

Homeowners

Dwelling, contents and liability reviewed against current rebuild costs, plus the water and wind language that decides most claims.

Auto

Liability, collision and uninsured-motorist limits set at a level that would actually absorb a serious at-fault accident.

Life & term

Level term sized to the income your household still relies on, with a plain comparison of what each carrier underwrites.

Renters

Contents and personal liability for a rented home, including the loss-of-use cover tenants are usually surprised to learn they have.

Small business

General liability, contents and business interruption for owner-run shops, studios and trades working from a single location.

Umbrella

A layer that sits above your home and auto liability for the claim that runs past both of those policies at once.

How it works

Three conversations, then a decision that is yours

The review costs nothing and does not cancel anything. You can walk away from it with a marked-up copy of your current policy and no new paperwork.

Tell us what you have

Send the policy you hold today, or just describe your household. We work out which limits are doing real work and which are decoration.

We shop it properly

We put your file in front of the carriers we hold appointments with, then show you the differences in wording — not only in price.

You choose, we handle the rest

Pick an option and we manage the switch, the overlap dates and the paperwork. Stay where you are and we will say so plainly.

About the agency

I read the exclusions page first

I spent my first years in claims, which is a quick education in how a policy behaves when it is finally needed. Almost every unhappy surprise I saw traced back to a limit nobody had revisited in a decade, or a clause nobody had read aloud.

So that is how I work now. Independent, which means no quota from a single carrier and no reason to steer you. I quote what fits, I tell you when your existing cover is already the better deal, and I put the trade-offs in writing so you are not deciding from memory.

If a policy of mine ever has to pay out, I want the conversation at that moment to be short.

Already insured?

Four things we check on a policy you already hold

You do not need to be shopping to get value out of a review. These are the gaps that turn up most often on policies that have simply renewed year after year.

  • Rebuild cost vs. purchase price

Construction costs move faster than renewals do. We compare your dwelling limit against what rebuilding would take today.

  • Liability ceilings

Where your home and auto liability actually stop, and whether an umbrella layer would cost less than you assume.

  • Water and wind wording

Seepage, backup, surface water and named-storm deductibles are where two similar-looking policies stop being similar.

  • Discounts you already qualify for

Bundling, claim-free history, new roofs, monitored alarms — credits that often exist but were never applied.

Questions

Before you get in touch

Does a quote or review cost anything?

No. Quoting and reviewing are part of being your agent. We are paid by the carrier once a policy is in force, which is disclosed before you sign anything.

Will contacting you cancel my current policy?

Nothing changes until you ask for it. Your existing cover stays exactly as it is, and if we do move a policy we overlap the dates so you are never uninsured for a day.

Is bundling always cheaper?

Usually, but not always — and a bundle discount is not worth a weaker claims clause. We quote both ways and show you the difference side by side.

How long does the whole thing take?

Home and auto quotes typically come back within a couple of business days once we have your current declarations page. Life takes longer because it is underwritten individually.

What does “independent” actually mean here?

We are appointed with several carriers rather than employed by one, so we can place your policy wherever it fits best. Licensing details are provided in writing with every quote.

Start with what you have

Tell us roughly what you need covered. We will come back with questions if something is unclear, then with options once we have enough to quote accurately.

  • One form, one step — no questionnaire to grind through.
  • A licensed agent reads it, not an auto-responder.
  • No cover is bound and no payment is taken from this page.

We use what you send only to prepare your quote. Nothing is bound and no payment is collected here.
